GWB win Gold Award at Scottish NCBF
In November 2009, Glasgow Wind Band took part in the Scottish Regional Heat of the National Concert Band Festival. We played two pieces - "Javelin", by Michael Torke, and "Sunrise at Angel's Gate", by Philip Sparke. For this we were awarded a Gold award and were invited to take part in the NCBF National Festival. This festival takes place over Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th April 2010 in Birmingham Conservatoire. The last time we participated in the NCBF National Festival was in April 2007 at The Sage in Gateshead - where we were awarded a Gold award!
So, in April we will be heading down to Birmingham to play "Music of the Spheres" by Philip Sparke - a rather tricky, but very enjoyable piece of music. We are fortunate enough to be playing in the Adrian Boult Concert Hall - which seats 520 people. If you'd like to hear a preview of our performance - we will be playing "Music of the Spheres", along with other classic wind band pieces, at our annual concert on Friday 19th March in the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow.
Obviously, Birmingham is a little further away than Glasgow city centre, but anybody wishing to make the trip would be very welcome to come down to the NCBF National Festival to support the band on Saturday 10th April.
